Tour Description

This day tour from Rome explores the landscapes and villages of the Castelli Romani, a traditional countryside retreat just outside the capital. Rolling hills, historic towns, lakeside viewpoints, and local food traditions define an itinerary designed to showcase a slower, authentic side of the Roman region. The experience blends scenic drives, cultural stops, and relaxed free time across some of the area’s most emblematic locations.

Tour Services

  • Pick-up and drop-off in Rome (Piazzale Ostiense, Rome) – standard meeting point and time (Optional hotel or custom pick-up/drop-off for an additional cost, upon request).
  • Transportation by comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes-Benz minivan (each minivan can host up to 7 passengers) and English-speaking driver.
  • Visit of Frascati, Grottaferrata and Castel Gandolfo (not guided).
  • Free time in Ariccia (lunch not included).

Morning – Rome to the Castelli Romani

The day begins with a departure from Rome, heading into the Roman countryside toward the Castelli Romani area. The drive unfolds through gentle hills, vineyards, and small villages long favored as a countryside escape by locals (approximately 1 hour drive).

Frascati and Grottaferrata

The first stop is Frascati, one of the most renowned towns of the Castelli Romani, known for its elegant villas, lively piazzas, and panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. Participants enjoy time to stroll through the historic center and admire notable residences from the outside, including Villa Aldobrandini and other Renaissance landmarks.

The journey continues to Grottaferrata, a small town distinguished by its Byzantine heritage. Here, participants admire the exterior of the Abbey of San Nilo, an impressive 11th-century monastery and one of the area’s most significant historical sites (2 hours).

Castel Gandolfo

The tour then reaches Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence. From viewpoints overlooking Lake Albano, participants enjoy sweeping views of the lake framed by rolling hills, while taking in the town’s refined architecture and historic atmosphere (1 hour).

Ariccia

The final stop of the day is Ariccia, a town celebrated for its baroque architecture and strong culinary traditions. Free time is available to relax and stop at a traditional trattoria to taste the local specialty porchetta, slowly roasted according to regional tradition (2 hours – lunch not included).

Return to Rome

At the end of the visit, the journey back to Rome begins, passing once again through the lush landscapes and gentle hills of the Castelli Romani (approximately 1 hour drive).

Art. 1 Terms and Regulations:

  • Group capacity:  min 10 pax – max 20 people per group
  • If the group tour does not reach the minimum capacity of participants by 72 hrs prior the start of the tour, it will be cancelled.
  • In case of the cancellation by the great italy tour, the great italy tour will return the amount paid by the customer via nexi payment platform.

 

Art. 2 – Cancellation policy on behalf of the client:

  • Once customers pay the amount of a day tour, in the case of the eventual withdrawal on behalf of the client for any reason before departure, the client will be charged the following percentage of the participating shares, calculated taking into consideration how many days before departure he/she has requested the cancellation. From the day following the booking until:

 
– 6 days pre-departure 0% (free cxl till 5 days prior the tour)

– 5-0 days pre-departure 100%.

  • By confirming the reservation and making the payment, you accept the regulation and the itinerary as previously described.

 

Art. 3 – Tour variations

  • The service providers (hotels, agritourisms, restaurants, chefs, etc.) At times mentioned in our tour itineraries are subject to change. In this unlikely event they will only be substituted by others of equal or better quality in order to avoid affecting the content of our services.
  • The itineraries are subject to changes. Suggested activities may have to be substituted as a result of natural disasters, sudden atmospheric changes, temporary closures, striking or any other problems for which the tour organizers may not be held accountable. Any alterations made will be done so in order to improve the service on offer and will always be of equal commercial value.
